Between Monday's pigeon fiasco and tomorrow's Turkey feast, I'd say this candy goes along with the theme this week: birds!

Film Festival
Three days, three blockbusters.
I've seen The Help, Captain America, and the new Planet of the Apes movie over the past three days. It's been pretty fun, and none of them were really 'duds'. In fact, they were each good in their own way. I can't remember the last time I saw so many movies at the theater in such a short time span! Next on my list? The smaller indie flick Beginners, starring Ewan McGregor. Have you seen any good movies this summer?

It All Ends
I just got home from watching the final installment of the Harry Potter series. Although I'm sad that there won't be any more books or films (for now), I appreciate how well the final cut turned out. I think the ending was satisfying and definitely did the book justice. What do you think? If you've read the Harry Potter series, were you pleased with the ending?

Weekend Snapshots: Around Town
Lots of fresh flowers spotted at the farmer's market.
DIY supplies: colorful clay + embroidery thread.
Neon clay bangles worn to a backyard bbq.
Early stages of a teeny friendship bracelet.
Homemade zucchini bread.
Date night on Thayer Street. Go see this movie if you haven't already. Seriously, go. It made me miss Paris.
Long line during the grand opening weekend at Pinkberry in Garden City.
My watermelon + original swirl.
Sunset and illuminated clouds.
Another great summer weekend is in the books! I'm looking forward to lots more in the next few weeks (including a beach day!) and tons of visitors coming in August.
I love summer.

Weekend Wind-Down

Must See
This weekend was so relaxing and gave me plenty of time to recharge. It's felt even longer than three days, which is such a treat! I went to the movies twice and saw the Hangover Two and Bridesmaids. Both were hysterical and I definitely recommend checking them out. I also caught up on some DVR'd shows, including last weekend's SNL with Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga. They're quite a funny pair and the "Liquor World" jingle has been stuck in my head all day! The grill saw a lot of work, as did the margarita maker, which always equals a good time. I'm heading out for a sushi date with M and I honestly can't think of a better way to close out the long weekend.
Hope you all enjoyed yours!
P.S. Make this smoothie. I did. You won't regret it!

Recent Bedtime Ritual
The past couple nights have been spent watching chapters from the newly released Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It's hard to believe that the movies are finally coming to an end this summer! In related news, I still haven't spotted Emma Watson around town (she's a student here at Brown University). She's grown up so much since the first film!

My Growing Library
I was so happy to come home from my trip home to a stack of new magazines and another book by Steve Martin (gifted from M, of course)! I've been a fan of his ever since he starred in Father of the Bride (and the subsequent sequels). I just finished reading An Object of Beauty and I must say, Steve Martin is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. The newest book in my collection is actually a memoir that Steve wrote about his own career in stand-up comedy. I'm only a few pages in and I can already tell I'm going to love it. Side note: doesn't Kate Winslet look amazing on the cover of Glamour? Love her hair!

Belle of the Ball

Like so many of my girlfriends, I tuned in to watch the Academy Awards last night. For the most part, I thought the show was boring and dragged on a lot longer than necessary. The best part for me was watching the red carpet arrivals and picking apart all of the outfits. There were some highlights, like Mila Kunis, who looked romantic and glamorous in Elie Saab. I thought her whole look was flawless. I'd die to own a dress like that. There were far too many low points to mention (Nicole Kidman's atrocious kimono getup, Gwyneth Paltrow's sub-par musical performance, and whatever was going on with James Franco). Other notables: lots of big, colorful jewels, Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford, Anne Hathaway's custom Louboutins, and the performance by the PS22 chorus. Amazing!
What did you enjoy most/least about the show?

Toy Story Cuties
I wish it was my birthday right now because I'd order up some of these adorable Toy Story cupcakes. Lyndsay of Coco Cakes has done it again (she is waaay too talented)! I think the Mr. Potato Head is my favorite, but the little aliens are adorable too! Have you seen Toy Story 3? If not, you must go. It was hysterical and maybe a bit of a tear-jerker. I cannot get enough of these cupcakes, though. Hurry up, birthday!

Shark Attack

I know I'm a little late on this one, seeing as Shark Week just ended, but I'm still posting it anyway. I think this pave ring makes a serious statement and is really fun, too! My sisters and I used to rent one of the Jaws movies almost every time our parents took us to Blockbuster back in the day. Yes, we even watched the cheesy Sea World one where the tourists got trapped in the underwater walkway at least 63 times. The original is still my favorite and I love that it was filmed in nearby Martha's Vineyard. I only wish that summer could be extended by about a month so I could fit in more long weekend trips. Next summer, Martha's Vineyard will be at the top of my list.
Have you enjoyed your summer thus far?

Date Night

I've had such a fun weekend & hope you have too! It seems like the past couple days have been packed with fun events, warm weather, and lots of laughs. The highlight of the weekend for me was seeing Toy Story 3 earlier today. I don't want to give anything away, but it was amazing! It definitely surpassed my expectations and had me in hysterics multiple times. I recommend that everyone go out and see what appears to be the last of the Toy Story adventures. Be sure to look out for cameos from other Pixar movies, like the Cars poster on Andy's bedroom wall and a Nemo toy in the daycare's toy box. There's also a really cute animated short after the previews. It was such a fun way to end an amazing weekend.
What was your favorite part of this weekend?

Dream House

Field of Dreams is near the very top of my list of all-time favorite movies. Anytime I'm flipping through the channels and it's on, I feel obligated to watch it. It's just that good and (for me) it never gets old. Ever. It's just a feel-good movie that parents should watch with their kids and couples should watch together. The story is amazing and it involves a lot of baseball history, which is great in my book. There are so many scenes that I've seen literally hundreds of times, yet they still give me goosebumps and stir up a little nostalgia.
Anyway, there is a point to this post. The farm in Iowa where the movie was filmed is for sale! The entire lot is 193 acres and includes the gorgeous old farmhouse and (best of all) the actual field of dreams that Kevin Costner built as part of the movie. I think it would be such a unique and special place to live. Sadly, I don't have $5.4 million laying around and I'm not sure I could survive in the middle of nowhere Iowa, but it's certainly nice to dream. You can read all about the farm and see more photos here.

Muppets Make Me Smile

Do you have a favorite Muppet? I've always loved Beaker, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's lab assistant. I love how he "meeps" instead of talking. The poor guy is always getting set on fire or electrocuted, but he still comes back for more! I watched the new Muppet Christmas movie in December and it was hysterical! I love shows that are funny for kids and adults alike. Beaker and Bunsen certainly continue to make quite a pair.

Did you know you can design and build your own Muppet at FAO Schwarz? I've been to the Muppet Whatnot Workshop in NYC but I got serious stage fright and couldn't decide on what to make! Next time I go back I'll definitely be more prepared. You have to admit, that is a pretty overwhelming toy store. What a great idea though!

What would your personalized Muppet look like?

Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands...

What do these characters above have in common? They were all created by mastermind Tim Burton, who just happens to be one of my favorite movie directors/producers of all time. That's the reasons that I'm dying to check out his featured exhibit at MOMA in NYC (running until April 26th). It's a behind-the-scenes look at Burton's sketchbooks, sculptures, short films, and other goodies that have earned him a place in Hollywood's hall of fame. He is such an innovator and can't really be compared to anyone else. I have a lot of respect for his films. I love them all, from Big Fish to Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and pretty much everything in between. I even mentioned last week that I can't wait to see his take on Alice in Wonderland that's coming out in March. He is the kind of person I'd like to know more about and find out what inspires all of his crazy ideas and characters. I'm hoping to make a trip down to New York to catch the show before it ends in April.

Do you have a favorite Tim Burton movie?
