Spent today drinking mimosas and tailgating at FedEx field before the Redskins/Patriots' game. It was so much fun to be home and catch up with friends and it couldn't have been better December weather for a football game. Hope you're having a great weekend!

Ready for Some Football?
One of the best things about fall (aside from the arrival of the pumpkin spice latte) is the return of football, and more importantly, fantasy football! I love preparing for the draft (our league's is tonight!), competing against the boys on Sundays, and tracking the stats. For the past couple of years I've been at the top of the leader board for most of the season, only to ultimately fall out of first place. This year, I'm hoping to stay on top of the waiver wires and come in first place overall! Are you involved in any type of fantasy team?

Pre-Irene Beach Run
I ventured down to South County today in celebration of my last few vacation days and summer winding down. It was foggy and overcast at first, but ended up being a beautiful (but windy) beach trip. It was also the first time I've seen kite boarders in Narragansett. I give them a lot of credit-it takes some serious strength to hang on while the wind pulls you around. Not exactly my cup of tea, but fun to watch, especially when paired with acrobatics in the air.

Beach Reads
This has just been added to the list of books I'm planning on reading over the summer.
What's on your summer reading list?

Friar Fanatics
I went to a Providence College men's basketball game tonight! It was a lot of fun and something out of my usual weeknight routine, which is always a good thing. The Friars lost to Notre Dame, but their star senior, Marshon Brooks, set a Big East scoring record with 52 points! Quite an accomplishment! I hope he makes it to the NBA. Side note: the friar mascot is terrifying, especially if you went to Catholic school most of your life (like me).
I really want to go to another game before the season ends!

Day Two: Your First Love, In Great Detail
Most of my first loves (yes, plural) were athletes. No, I'm not talking about pee-wee football players or Babe Ruth all-stars. I'm talking MLB, NFL, NBA, NCAA, and PGA superstars. That's right, I went straight to the majors! My dad has always been an avid sports fan, and so I, too, watched a LOT of sports growing up. Not that I'm complaining at all. It's probably why I'm 3-0 in my fantasy football league right now! My biggest and earliest sports crushes were definitely Brady Anderson (of the Baltimore Orioles), Gary Clark (Washington Redskins), Richie Sexton (Cleveland Indians), and Wally Szczerbiak (Miami of Ohio). I became unhealthily obsessed with their stats, ads, books, facial hair (okay, okay, just Brady's sideburns), community appearances, and pretty much any tidbit of information I could get my hands on. Looking back, it was kind of bizarre, but slightly more dignified than spending all day thumbing through Tiger Beat. At least I was learning about their sports, right?
I think my first experience with love towards an actual person I knew (and not a celeb) was my best friend, Ryan, from childhood. We grew up a few blocks away from one another and spent way too much time together. His parents were good friends with my parents, so we were pretty much inseparable. He used to talk me into playing hide and seek and basketball, and on days where he was being extra nice, we would do an art project together or play with Barbies for a little while. He used to make me laugh until I couldn't breathe (and almost peed my pants) and he was the person responsible for literally knocking the wind out of me for the first time (with a soccer ball). We had walkie-talkies that worked up to 3 miles away from one another, so even after we had to go home we could still talk. The only thing I didn't have was a ladder so he could climb right into my bedroom window (like Sam on Clarissa Explains It All or Dawson, of course). My dad used to joke that Ryan was his son because he was at my house more than his own.
When I was much younger, I used to just assume that Ryan and I would get married and live together because we were best friends. Obviously, I didn't understand very much about love and relationships then (and he's happily married with a one-year-old now), but it felt like a reasonable explanation of love at the time. Looking back, I wasn't far off, really. I still think that love can exist between best friends and that being able to laugh and have fun is one of the best/most important parts of a relationship. Having a simple outlook on love can be much more rewarding than overanalyzing relationships or playing games. I'm so lucky that my first love never ended in heartbreak and that we're still friends to this day.

Touchdown!
I absolutely love football season. There's something about kicking back on Sundays and watching the games that screams autumn, tailgating, and fantasy football to me. That being said, I think the options for athletic apparel to support my team are somewhat limited. Most gear made for girls is either pink, rhinestone-embellished, or both (yikes!). Lucky for me and my fellow football-loving girls out there, Victoria's Secret has just launched a collection that carries stylish, flattering NFL gear in team colors! I'm so excited about this that I don't know what to buy first. Aaand, let's be serious ladies, we all know guys love girls in jerseys, right?! They only offer 13 teams as of now, but I imagine they'll expand if this first round does well. Take a look at my top picks below. No hating on my team, either!
Sorry for the miniature images, VS is stingy with their photos! Be sure to check out the site to see if your favorite team is featured! Are you happy with the styles and selection?

Play Ball

I'm so glad that baseball season has started! Nothing says summer to me like the Red Sox and Fenway Park. The home opener last night has really started a buzz about the season and I'm excited! I can't wait to spend a sunny afternoon on Yawkey Way with a hot dog and taking in all the sights.

Adiós My Little Casa

I'm slightly saddened today because my favorite player from the Celtics, Eddie House, has been traded to the Knicks. I will really miss cheering for him and all of his three pointers. He is an amazing clutch player and a lot of fun to watch. The sidelines won't be the same without his son jumping around either. Best wishes in New York, Eddie! You will be missed.

WHO DAT!

Congrats to Drew Brees and the Saints for their exciting victory in Super Bowl 44! It was an entertaining game to watch & a meaningful win for the city of New Orleans! My favorite parts (other than the Saints' victory) were Brees' shots at the end holding his son, the Google commercial, and all of the Doritos commercials (so funny!). On the other hand, the halftime show was pathetic and Carrie Underwood's outfit made her look like a cheap hooker. Terrible! This was definitely one of the more memorable games in recent history. Hopefully I won't have to wait too much longer until the Redskins make it back to the playoffs! Geaux Saints!
What was your favorite part of the big game?

Geaux Saints

I'm so pumped for today's playoff games! I am really pulling for the Saints, mainly because I'm a huge fan of Drew Brees. He definitely carried my fantasy team for the majority of the season. How can you not root for the team that has yet to make a Super Bowl appearance? Bill Simmons, one of my favorite sports writers, has a great column this week about the hype surrounding the matchup between the Saints and the Vikings. He makes a great argument for the Saints to come out on top. And, quite honestly, I flat out refuse to cheer for Favre. I'm just over it. It's time for Brees to shine. I really think the Saints have a better team dynamic going on than Favre's comeback story. I prefer watching Jeremy Shockey's intense antics (hopefully he plays) and the whole Reggie Bush/Kim Kardashian lovey-dovey subplot is pretty entertaining as well. Wouldn't it be great to hear the entire Superdome chanting "Bush and the Tush"?

Bottom line, I think the Saints and their fans really deserve this win and trip to the Super Bowl. This team really has heart. Besides, haven't they been through enough in Louisiana the past 5 years?
Who will you be cheering for?
